Two and a half row with Emanuel Pariselle
« on: June 29, 2009, 04:51:00 PM »

Well the cars packed and I'm ready for the off.
Quite a drive to get down to Harsin, just South of Liege, in Belgium. But there's no gain without pain.
Two from the class of Stowmarket, 2008 will be there. Er, here. http://www.lagattedor.be/

Got my tools, apron and sandpaper. Have to look up the shanty again.

"We're sanding on the box, Me Boys. We're sanding on the box"

Last time I was in Belgium was to race bikes around the streets of Ghent. Ooooh! way back in '58.
Well that's another story.

Ok. Short report.

Long way to drive. via Ferry from Gothenburg to Kiel. Then 800 km. Took even longer to get back as the German autobahn was under repair. Took 2 hours to travel 50km between Bremen and Hamburg.

Got a puncture in a back wheel too.
Had to get the car unloaded to get at the spare wheel. Fortunately a German lorry driver helped me.

The Golden Goat ( goat has two dicks!) was a great place. Lots of good food.

My worst problem was that everyone spoke French except ME! Imagine not understanding what is going on around you for ten days. They did speak to me in English of course, but 99% was French.

Managed though.
Spent a whole day just cutting out the fretwork.
Worked a lot on the mechanics of the levers. And the springs for everyone. This was when I joined the injured with a gash on my left thumb where the pliers kept slipping and cutting into me.
Richard managed to cut a finger on a band saw.
Craig who actually lives there, nearly lost a thumb and finger on the first day!

Several slight design faults were sorted out on the spot. Matter of getting everything to fit in the right places.

I was really finished by the Thursday afternoon (Ikea Team rules, OK) and just waiting for my bass reeds to be tuned. However, everyone kept jumping the queue. Must have been because I didn't speak French.
Now if they'd finished my bass reeds then the problem with the reeds touching the bellows on the inside would have been found out earlier. And then they wouldn't have had to work til 4Am on Friday night!!
I went to bed of course. Fed up with waiting.

They all look very nice.
G/C Swing tuning sounds a bit different than the one row we made at Stowmarket.

I'll try and get some photos up for you to see. How do I do that Theo??

That sounds like so much fun!  Excerpt for the part about the injuries of course.
But I do think that those are udders on the goat!

Not my  photos, but I was sent these. It'll do for starters.

I'm the one with the red nose. Also sleeping at the work table. You can see my sore thumb too.

Chas.
In the next picture after your red nose experience, what is the gadget that is being used to screw in the boutons? ('scuse my French).
Please don't tell me it's a button screwing in gadget.  ???

That's exactly what it is Rees. You'll have to ask Emanuel where he got that one. I had to look at it twice.
It has a chuck like a drill, clamps nicely onto the button and is easily released afterwords.

This might be me and the 2D goat.

I'm the goat on the left ! ;)
