In Tune
« on: November 02, 2016, 10:55:57 PM »

Did anyone else hear Radio 3's " In Tune" this afternoon? I caught a few minutes of it in the car. Worth a listen! ... Start at about 42 minutes in.

Roger ;)

I only heard the beginning of it, in the car on the way home from work. There was promise of more tunes and talk later but I missed that as there were other distractions by the time I got home.

? I've never been on In Tune.
A couple of CD tracks played by Verity Sharp on Late Junction is my nearest claim to fame...

Bother - I missed it - first tune starts after a minute with one of my favourite tunes - The Modal Hornpipe ;  although I don't think the melodeon is the best instrument for this tune - I preferred the constant drone which the Cock & Bull band used    but much easier to do this on a piano accordion .  .

Listened to the second bit now - thanks for the link. Well done Squeezy! As a frequent listener to In Tune, I can tell you with confidence that melodeons are rare, and I've never heard one solo on that programme.

That Jiggery Pokerwork is a prime candidate for Theme of the Month...

Can it be played on a Castagnari?...

That very much depends on the Castagnari!  Over the years makers have adopted different keyboard layouts as their popularity wax and wane.  Ideally you want the accidentals as per the Pokerwork, though more recent Castagnari models tend to have the accidentals reversed which makes the piece more than a little tricky!

It can be played on any D/G box that has a Bb accidental - but it was written on a box that had the Bb on the pull which makes the bellows work significantly easier ... but I have played it on some of my boxes that have the accidentals reversed and it is definitely possible.

Found the broadcast by chance  radio channel hopping, loved hearing the tunes and chat  and two tunes were repeated on a Friday radio 3 round up best of programme around 4.30 pm just as I drove home from a local box  practice meeting.
