John Spiers on Radio 3 yesterday
« on: November 03, 2016, 09:32:42 AM »

John Spiers was a guest on Radio 3's 'In tune' yesterday 2nd Nov at 4:30pm. He plays a couple of numbers just after the beginning of the program (William Irwin's Modal Hornpipe/Ironing Board hornpipe) then a nice interview and more tunes (The Mallard/Dawn Chorus & Jiggery Pokerwork/Abingdon Sunset) about 50mins(?) in.
Great playing and tunes and a warm and enthusiastic presenter.

The Melodeons at Witney workshop weekend ... woof to that!

That's something I never thought I'd hear on the BBC's home of classical music

This is the clip of jiggerypokerwork. In fact they play a lot of folk/trad on Radio 3, it is where I first heard Vent du Nord and some Albanian Shepherds who were singing something so rude the presenter declined to give us a translation!

Very much enjoyed his concert tonight in N. Devon.  Great playing (naturally), skillful and tasteful, which aren't necessarily a given when melodeons are concerned, a couple of appropriately 'silly' songs to break up the music and warm, informative chat between tune sets to an appreciative audience on a cold night. Lovely chap - but then we knew that already, didn't we?

Catch him if you are able, the lad done good - well done Sqeezy!
