Dony C#-D-D# "Turbo Daly" layout
« on: November 20, 2016, 09:28:00 PM »

I've just ordered one of these from Castagnari. It's an extension of the system that Jackie Daly plays.
I call it the Turbo Daly system!

Great stuff Rees, looking forward to hearing how it works for you.

I like the low and high buttons of the D scale added to the outside C# row.

I've done some experiments converting club boxes to similar layouts: B/C/(half row in C#), or C#/D/ (half row in Eb) and these are nice systems.

You get some handy reversals of the D and G notes in the inside half row which are great for RH harmonies when playing in concert pitch (keys of D, G, etc). You could even play a couple of smaller-range tunes in Eb, playing on the Eb and D rows.

Another thing you could do with that same physical box (that physical layout of the RH button rows) would be to go with RH reeds tuned in  A/D/C#. Then the outside 2 rows are like an A/D and the inside two rows are like an Irish-American D/C#. Plenty of accidentals in the middle octave and even more reversals for the key of D. I have converted several clubs to A/D/(partial row in C#), or Bb/Eb/(partial row in D)

Not for me but a brave customer. I'll stick to my old C#D Erica for now. Good system though, I agree.
The low and high buttons of the D scale added to the outside C# row are becoming the norm. Makes sense.

Especially when the outside rows are 11/10.

When they're 12/11, not so much need.

Is the Dony always stepped-keyboard, or is this one flat?

nice, but 11/12/5 on ordering a new box with this set up would be better, though no doubt, unavailable.

Sorry for the thread drift, but speaking of 11/12/5, here's a neat vintage box, a Maga Ercole BbEb MMM that I'll probably convert to a Bb/Eb/D or D/Eb/E system.  Nice pre-war Stradella diatonic!
