Will he be quids in?
« on: November 27, 2016, 06:58:00 AM »

I was rather amused when I noticed the location of this concertina, which has been on eBay for quite a while. The seller is obviously hoping to be doubly "in the money".

(Edited 'cause I forgot to include the link!)

The opening price of £199 seems fair enough to me for a Lachenal 20-key anglo in fair condition, although it will need some work doing on it. It appears to have all its reeds with little sign of rusting, as far as I can see. The mahogany case is probably the original although it has lost its brass handle.

The other concertina included for free is a much cheaper german-style anglo in poor condition - no buttons and no indication of the state of the reeds. It is probably not worth very much, even for spares.

Steve, it's not the price I was drawing attention to! As Phil and Kirsty would say, "Location, location, location!"

They do have an international postal service in Poland.
I can't see that there is a problem.

A real place, apparently. As they say, "Truth is stranger than Fiction".

Yes, definitely a real place, not all that far south from Gdansk. I looked it up, as we're travelling to Poland in the summer, and I wondered (supposing he'd take 2/6d for it) whether we could nip there and pick it up, to save on the postage, but it's a fair old hike from Krakow!
It's just another example of the quirks and coincidences of differing languages.
