« on: December 24, 2016, 02:53:02 PM »

Hi folks - this month's selection:

- Star of the County Down - last month's runner up, very ably demo'ed  by Hector:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XvFBDICSoA

- Rue des Pres - thanks for this nomination - nice choice! Written by Stephane Durand, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1Nx0v7kfjk

- The Lonesome Boatman - again, nice choice; written by Finbar Furey; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2tkaOO4Dwc

- The South Wind; a 1700's  Irish music classic courtesy of Lester's wonderful blog: http://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/tune-463-south-wind.html

There you are folks - happy voting and happy Christmas!

Cheers,
Clive

The link for "Star..." brings up "Lonesome Boatman."

Rue des Pres:
Best to ignore that US session  IMHO. ::)
Here's a musical version  played by Anna Pack.

And a gentle one from our Melonbox https://youtu.be/8nrIZpiQt-0
So maybe this tune is a runner after all.

Joyeux Noel to all!

Both of the Rue des Pres links are to the one with Anna Pack. Still needs fixing.

I think that both are great versions. Here is another one by Dave Gray (allowing for inverted view).

That Davie Gray one is especially lovely. Any idea what the second tune is?

It sounds like something from Julian Sutton, but I don't think it's on Melodeon Crimes.

Has anyone got  some abc's for Rue des Pres?
Whatever the outcome of the vote, it sounds like a good tune to learn.

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

Thanks to arty and Stephen.
By way of explanation, I'm trying to organise myself and my music and one thing I am trying is to get the tunes I play into abc format.
By doing this then I have the sheet music and midi file in one place for practice purposes. It also means I can generate sheet music of tune sets and incipits to memory jog. Hence any new tunes I'm trying to plug into abc's!
Thanks both

There are obviously some differences between the two - most noticeably the second bar of the B section, where the pdf rises. The pdf countermelody looks like it might not work that well to me. I might have a closer look, though. It does seem a sweet tune, and thanks to those for providing the resources. If anyone wants some chords on a rewritten score, I'm about to write down a set for myself.
