Poll: Tune of the Month for March 2017
« on: February 21, 2017, 07:26:16 PM »

Shall we have another poll?

Last month's runner up is:

- The Keel Row - Here's Liam Robinson playing this quicker than I probably would... rapper dance speed, I guess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kauUXCDztjM . Slowed down, it's a classic hornpipe too of course.

... and just because it came very close, and I like the tune, we'll have last month's runners up runners up too:

- Morpeth Rant - The first tune of Bill's set here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLlwpBnpF6Y ; one of my favourite tunes from North England, and I can't believe we haven't done it yet!

... and two others, since we have no new nominations this month, here's a couple of off the wall possibilities:

- Willow Express - written by Chris Shaw, and here played by his band GIGCB https://youtu.be/za8_iIqQ2TU . Very fun 48 bar jig, in 3 parts... partly in Em, partly in G. There is a *long* intro before the main tune itself kicks in.

- Beetle on the Wine - 32 bar reel written by Dave Whetstone of Albion Band/Cock and Bull Band fame. Here played by... me: https://youtu.be/ZoT3Bx1VGnw?t=2m (2nd tune in the set, starts 2 minutes in). Great tune, ideally suited to a 2 row melodeon.  I'm playing it in G on a G/C here (sorry for the confusion), but it would normally sit in D on a D/G.

Happy voting folks,

Clive

Having just looked at the willow express video, I should point out that it has, as Chris wrote it, a ridiculously long introduction of over a minute. The main tune starts at about 1 min 5 secs in.

Oh my, my recording of willow express is a bit dodgy, isn't it? Just had a proper listen! Here's Chris' band GIGCB playing it at Gennetines - I'm not in this - https://youtu.be/za8_iIqQ2TU - I'll replace my recording with this in the poll. It's much better.
