"Ghost" notes sounding on treble side
« on: January 03, 2017, 03:31:22 PM »

I have a very old Hohner 3-stop, one row which has started to sound other notes when some of the treble notes are depressed. It only happens on a few of the lower notes: I will depress and play one button and I will hear othwr treble notes sounding as well, although more quietly. Anyone know what causes this?

Badly fitted reed blocks allowing air leaks under the reed blocks, cracks or failed glue in reed blocks. Pallets or other mechanism/keyboard parts making contact are the main reasons.  Can be hard to track down the exact cause.

Does it change anything to the problem when you open/close each stop ?

It happens to varying degrees with each stop.

What puzzles me is why it suddenly began doing this after sitting on the shelf, having worked perfectly  fine a month ago. Perhaps changes in the environment? I heat with wood, which makes it rather dry in the house. Alternately, when I'm away for the day, the damp cold settles in a little bit.

Any children in the house lately?
