Wine Box Box
« on: January 05, 2017, 07:55:50 PM »

Hello Good People of Melnet.

I thought you might like to see some photos in my  latest box, which is made out of old wine boxex and corks and nails. However, the internals are all top notch. Reed block design is by the great Emmanuel Pariselle, while the rest is my own. It is a 3V MMM box with 3V fundamentals and 2V Chords on the bass, so no thirds.  Reeds are Cicarrelli and it is D/G for Morris work.  It plays well but now  needs tuning.I hope you like the pictures.

Cheers,

Richard

I'm in LOVE.  For me, as one who works in the wine industry, that box really mixes business and pleasure!  I wish the photos were better though.

Being a red Bordeaux, definitely dry on the pallet(s), but still quite wet should you spill it...

I really do love that box.  Please post better pics if you are able.  I am a man of many wooden wine boxes, the result of 20 years in the business.  I had vaguely thought of something similar once, but nothing as cool as that looks.  I really love what you did with the grille.  The whole thing is simply stunning. Did I mention that I REALLY love this box??!!!

Funny, the more wine I sip tonight, the more I find myself whining for a box like that!

C'mon GA stop tottering on the fence, DO you like it or not ? ;)

What a lovely looking box - a few more folds in the bellows and you could fit a wine box bag in it...........

Perhaps a matching case made from a wine box would be a protective addition.

Thank you all for your kind and witty comments.  I actually made a case out of Wine boxes years ago  for a one row I made .  I love the Chateau boxelled- brilliant.

Many moons ago Theo told me how to get pictures on the forum. I run a Mac with I photo, so if anybody can tell me how to do it in simple terms I will try and get some more on. I am OK with wood and metal, but computers....... No!

I find the easiest way is to email them to myself which gives the option of what size to send.  I choose the smallest, send, resave, and post.

It's a Corker!!

Really love this idea and I would think wine box thickness would be just about right.

More of a beer lover so I would not have the materials.

I'm not so sure and I've been meaning to ask.  Did you have to plane the pieces  to the right thickness?  Is it made only of wine box pieces or were other woods used for its construction?  I should  really like to hear more about how it was built if you are willing to share.  Also, I believe most wooden wine boxes are made of oak, and it seems most makers don't use oak, what do you think of it as a material for the box?

Another member on here was looking for old fashioned fruit crates to build a box with, a while ago. Don't know how he eventually got on, though.

I too had a wine box in my workshop once, a Castagnari, to be precise. Its owner had had the misfortune of spilling the contents of a glass of wine all over the keyboard and its wooden levers.  Having in mind the cost of fermented refreshments in Norway, it's something you want to avoid...
