Server moves
« on: January 26, 2017, 02:25:39 PM »

Ariotek, or web hosts, are merging with Krystal Hosting.  This is as a result of some serious thinking following the server crash which put us off line recently for the best part of a week.  Ariotek is run by two people and they have decided that they are too small an operation to provide the level of integrity required to avoid a similar incident in future.

The move will begin on the night of Monday 30th January and should be "seamless".

If we do go offline that night or next day I will post updates on Twitter and on the melnet group on Facebook.

Another server move will be happening in the next few days.  This is a planned move to leave Krystal Hosting where support has been very poor.  We are moving to Ngage hosting where I have had a hosting account for the last two months and where support has been excellent, and the server performance has been excellent too.

Clive will be doing the move and he will update us further.

Will probably (says he, hedging his bets) move the server across this weekend at some point. Likely effects are

1) A downtime of 30 mins or so while I copy the database across and swap the server
2) Attachment pictures uploaded after 21/4/17 10am (roughly) being lost; feel free to reupload them if necessary after the move
3) Considerably less stress for Theo from their support desk.

Cheers,

Clive

If you can see this post, we're on the new server. Any problems let me know.

Cheers,

Clive

We seem to be missing attachments; they're on the server, so I'll tweak that when I get a chance. Just a path thing I expect.

Nothing I did - just a caching thing I think. I'd totally forgotten about wap mode!

Thanks Clive for handling the move and making it such a smooth transition.   And thank you also to our new hosts kloudhost.net (formerly Ngage hosting) for the prompt and helpful responses to all my questions over the past two months.   I can recommend them to anyone looking for web hosting.
