Tune of the Month for February 2017: The South Wind
« on: February 01, 2017, 01:05:51 PM »

Gosh, that was a close race!

Here we have:

- The South Wind; a 1700's  Irish music classic courtesy of Lester's wonderful blog: http://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/tune-463-south-wind.html

Simple enough air/waltz, depending on how you're feeling - have fun!

Cheers,

Clive

Here's my idiosyncratic take on The South Wind in the key of C.

This is the first Tune of the Month, that I've managed to master.

I looked at Mcgrooger's version of South Wind on his Pastourelle III at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs7kBiApNp0.
I too play a Pastourelle III and thought it might be fun to attempt a "duet" with him.

With his permission, the result is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJsst2a3UX0

I've used different stops to complement the original but carefully stuck to the same chords.
The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that my box has the extra 4 bass buttons at the bottom an Mcgrooger's are at the top (not that they're used in this case) and also that mine is 3rd button start and his 4th button.

I'm still really only playing a 1-row, even though the box has 2, but I do try a bit of cross-rowing! I just had to have a try at playing this tune this afternoon, and here's the result.
I'm sure you'll all enjoy the wind accompaniment near the start, and it was from the south!

Good stuff Edward. You beat me to the first one. Started to film this evening but failed to apply some golden rules:-
1. Get a good camera.
2. Practice even more - rhythm went to pot when I looked at that red light
3. Try not to grimace at every mistake - I spent most of the time pulling a face.
4. Don't do it when the dog returns from his walk. He did his usual thing, barked  and jumped up with muddy paws. I couldn't turn the camera off so the whole thing was captured.
I think it could be an entry for candid camera (I'm showing my age).
Never mind, back to the drawing board.
Yet again, well done.

We had Southery winds gusting to 45 mph a few days ago. I had thought about recording this then, but the wind and surf sounds were too much!

I've known this tune a while - normally combine it with 'The Moving Moon'
I was given the dots for a counter melody so on this upload I am accompanying myself.
A bit of a rushed Audacity project as I hadn't logged onto the forum for ages and only just saw this tune up.
The start is a bit bumpy as I didn't know when my playback would start! Messed up in repeats the last time through too.
Oh, and I forgot to put in the Em and it is too fast!
At least I had a go.

Here we are folks, rather close to the wire, a simple take on this tune in D/G on a Castagnari Mory.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILUfz2Y8ehQ

Not a lot to say about this version - you play it on this box, and this is how it comes out :-)

End of the month folks; onto the next tune! Late contribs welcome as ever. Stick 'em on the end here.
