My 1939 grey 4-voice Casali C#/D, because it's magnificent (somewhere between a Paolo Soprani and a Baldoni, Bartoli in sound), and mint, and I'd never find another one to replace it - so all the insurance in the world would be useless...

My main box is a C#/D van der Aa.

A.) it's worth more than any other box I own (and most things in my house)
B.) It's the box I like to play the most, It has a D row and.... other stuff
C.) It's left on a shelf in my living room so that's always available for me to play easily and now that I think about it it, easy to grab in case of emergency.

With two kids under 2 yo I probably won't have enough arms available to grab a box though.

I'm tempted to wind my fellow Melnetters up by grabbing one of my banjos..... But the fact is that they and most of my boxes would be replaceable. The one exception is a scrappy-looking Hohner Club 2 into which a previous owner put Binci reeds. Great sound (albeit a bit edgy through a PA unless carefully EQ'd) and an amazing action for a thing of its age. So I'll grab that.
Cheers

I'd take my Serafini 3 row. No contest - it's light, sweet and versatile.

Trick question?!..is this the house that I've built on my 'desert island?'

In that case, I was only allowed to bring one here anyway,  HA114 in D.   (:)

For me it would have to be any box that I had borrowed. I couldn't face someone if I'd saved my favourite and let theirs burn.

Hesitant about replying to this thread and tempting fate   >:E

However, it would have to be my D/G Hohner reeded Castagnari Tommy MMM that I would save.

There are some here who, I'm sure, would nominate such a "Frankenstein" box as "first to burn", but it has been my main squeeze for the last couple of years, and I doubt that I would ever be able to acquire another.

Forever grateful to Sandy F, Theo and Mike R for making it all possible.

I'm reminded of Ricky Gervais's suggestion when asked what one thing he would save from a fire..."One of the twins". I feel like that about the melodeons...but what is the collective name for "One of an indeterminate number of instruments that I've not yet admitted to owning?".

Oh well. The new one arrived today....

This is ridiculous!  I have two hands, I'd save two!

Actually I'd save the Baffetti Binci and the Club IIb Victoria.  If it meant running into the street naked, so be it.  I could hang one in front and one behind.  Unfortunately I'd need to hang the larger one to the rear...

I would collect my GGFs (originally thought to be earlier) 2 1/2 row D/G made in Switzerland around 1920.

Historic, family connections, and a wonderful player in an older tuning style.

I have a box for just this situation!

It's a massive wooden box that I can fit all my melodeons in and then manhandle them out of the house while beating off the fire with the remaining piano accordions!

Sorry, I missed the previous thread.

I'm interested by the replies so far, but realise that the burning house element adds a layer of confusion (as, indeed, it would).  Suppose, instead, that a future government were to decide that the wealth of melodeons in the country should be more evenly distributed, and we can in future only have one each until every household has one.  (Hang on a minute, I'm just picturing this vision of the future...).  Given time to choose your one and only, rather than a hasty grab in the mad dash to leave a burning building, would that change your answer?

Would the decision making time be greater if all your boxes were tuned wet?

My tortoiseshell  Preciosa, as I could sell it for more than any of my other boxes.
