Bb/Eb session at ECMW
« on: February 09, 2017, 12:20:35 PM »

If anyone is a facebook member and would like to support my request for a Bb/Eb session at ECMW, please go here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/72271408988/

and look for Roger Boydon's post asking for contributions to the workshops etc, and then find my comment to it..and (if you wish), support it with a comment?

Just reporting that this has been successful - I WILL be running a Bb/Eb session at ECMW weekend of June 24th 2017.

When I get more details (actually when and where), I'll post it here.

I’ve recently acquired a Bb/Eb box and I’ll be at ECMW.
Is there a repertoire specific to such sessions or is it a normal session transposed?

Thanks

Good question never adequately discussed here (AFAICT).

My own (limited) experience is that some people are able to come along with tunes "written" (or at least published) in Bb or Eb but many come along just to enjoy the different mix of sounds and instruments (e.g. natural keys for some woodwind and brass). My own angle is that my liliput in its "natural" key sounds very nice, and a great change from my aggressively noisy and raucous Oakwood (which I also love).

Because the keys are somwhat lower than D/G and also closer to the human voice range, there are tunes that go well, I particularly like ones that are normally played in Am on the D/G (Table Top Hornpipe, Sportsman's Hornpipe), and tunes that have a lots of high notes - Enrico in D (or G) is one.

I can't make the whole weekend but may now be able to get there for some/all of the Saturday.
Never been to ECMW - how much is ticketed? I can't find any info online.

Are the pub sessions open to all? Especially this one!

Thanks

You can get one-day tickets, email ecmw2018@gmail.com  to get details.

Apart from the sessions in the Village hall and scout hut I see no reason why you cannot attend any of the pub sessions.

Apologies here. Will be there on the friday, and had great fun last year, but I will be "marching on Parliament" at or about lunchtime on the Saturday.

I'll leave "my cause" to people's imagination

… I could perhaps be tempted by a "Blues" session?  ;)

No problem Chris - hope the march goes well. A good cause!

What a pity that you had to mention it at all.
