Hohner double ray B/C spring action
« on: February 14, 2017, 06:26:01 PM »

Hi, I'm alex from Spain.

I have a hohner double ray b / c from the pre-war years similar to vienna or pokerworks, I modified the keyboard by limiting the travel of the buttons and changed the felt of the valves so that it did not make the typical clack noise.

I put about 4mm or 5mm of felt in total, that made the valves rise and I had to adjust the button levers to leave them to a good level, but I think the springs have hardened a bit with this, making the triplets ornamentation difficult.

Could someone tell me the maximum thickness of felt that can be put on the valves?

Or some combination of valve height and spring pressure?

Thank you very much. :||:

On the valves (pallets in U.K.) I put no more than 2mm made up of 1mm felt and 1mm soft leather.  If you use 4mm felt in this position you may need to put a spacer of 2mm wood under the mechanism.

Do what Theo says and you should get the spring back.What method did you use to limit travel?

And maybe bend the button levers back a bit again?!   (:)

   To limit the travel of the buttons I put felt under the keyboard, it`s very easy and works well.

Are the holes for the buttons large enough to do this without having to raise the keyboard housing as well ?

"I put no more than 2mm made up of 1mm felt and 1mm soft leather."

Is that readily available to buy, Theo? CGM, perhaps?
