Sounds to me like they're machine made, rather than hand made

"are they the ones in the no name DDR wiener model melodeons with numbers on"

Like these in my Brazilian thing? They're the only numbered ones I've seen.

"Mechanika...................or are they toys only."

You're not confusing them with Meccano, are you Mark? (Hehe!)

Yes I have spoken with Harmonikas but would like to ask here if any one has used them how they compare to Dural sizing etc. Nice to have some imput . Are the really cheap and nasty or do they reward good work.Kind regards

Thanks Edward that sort of what I mean the ones in my weiner seem tidier and the numbers are smaller. Were are yours from.Is it Durals or Mechanikas in the chineese boxes with italian or "Italian style" reeds. IMHO these reed can be made quite good with good reeds work(not my reed work)

Other than that they're in my Hering, which was made in Brazil, I've no idea! No-one seems to know anything about the Hering boxes, apart from the fact that they're not made any more. Sorry.
Mind you, I love the sound of its reeds. (Except the few where the wax is b******d!)

My personal view is that the mechanical reeds from Harmonikas are cheap, and you get what you pay for. A friend has an old Hohner fitted with them and they are poor compared with the original Hohner reeds.

The Chinese boxes with Italian reeds I've worked on (mainly Sandpipers) have been fitted with the cheapest grade of Cagnoni reeds.  These are broadly similar to the Czech reeds you are asking about.

If you find reeds with numbers on in Chinese boxes I think it is safe to assume these are Chinese made.

were do chineese reeds reside.
Two photos Weiner DDR number reeds(suspect now harmonikas dural)
Fratton sourced box dural reeds.

What I am getting at is both these boxes sound great and have had good work after market done: as Dural is twice the price of mechanics and tipo again can you tell the difference or is it just subjective. I cant really.I think I can tell which is which but not say one is better. I do have Binici Tipo top quality reeds and I sure can tell they are better.

I think I will have to buy a set of each and decide for myself.

Ps I dont know if anyone noticed my error on another thread but it seems my two voice GC box grew another bank of reeds in the back of the closet it took about 5 years of not being touched.

Hi Mark, I think you will find the reeds in the bottom picture are made by Harmonikas, I've used several sets myself, the top ones are hard to make out.

regards
Mike.

No what happen for a second time I was in email contact with Harmonikas but when it came to order no reply. I am going away so I intend to chase harder when I return . But I had an empty work schedule but now have a summer season work so the project will go to next winter.
