Identification Help - Is This a Hohner Accordion?
« on: March 03, 2017, 03:28:05 PM »

Hi, can anyone tell me if the accordion in the attached picture is a Hohner? I have searched the Hohner website and online and cannot find any reference to a black one row with this particular logo.  Any help would be appreciated.

For a small while Hohner sold their 114 1 Row 4 Stop painted black like this and, if memory serves, sold them a Cajun Melodeons. Whether the tuning was any different from the standard Hohner indifferent tuning I don't know. Nice box though.

Or perhaps it's been sprayed black and retaped. I've done that to an old 114 and very nice it looks too. ( I get bored terribly easily ) ;)

No, that's the original finish and lettering.

Sorry to jump in, Rees!  Yes, it's a bog standard 4-stop 1-row with a stealth paint job.........

As I said above it's just a 114 in black

Thanks for all the replies.  I have a chance to buy it at a very good price but I'm not in the same area so I can't see it in person.  The color and logo was unfamiliar to me so I wasn't sure if it was a knock-off or a real Hohner.  Based on your comments it looks legit and a good deal so I'll probably grab it.

I have one which I bought from Pete at Hobgoblin a LONG time ago...the quality of the bellows seems better than on my "standard" 114s. As others have said, a fine box...

Would be really impressive if it had been painted with Vanta black.

My mate hasone, had it for many years now, and is lending it to me for a gig soon.  Trouble is, the bellows are still stiff even after a couple of decades!  He favours an old, out of tune three-stop when practicing rather than the pain of fighting with those "improved" bellows.
