Great stuff - wonderful playing!

Also (apropos another, parallel, thread at the moment) he is using all four fingers on the right hand.
And why not? Got all those genes, gonna make damn' good use of 'em.

Can't check the pitch as cat is sitting on me as I type...  My first reaction was that this box reacts faster than any HA114 I've ever owned - though obviously I'm much slower too!  Seeing one of the comments about how most newer boxes are dry tuned, I noticed that this sounded dry and sure enough the M+stop is down.  That makes quite a difference in response without losing the growl of the L voice or bite of the H voice.

I'm still never going to be able to play like that - the brain hasn't got it and the hands are getting slower...

I'm not sure if he is using all four fingers? It looks a bit like sympathetic movement of his pinky, though I could be wrong. Bobby Gardiner is one of my main influences in melodeon playing, so I've certainly been curious to see how he uses those digits...

I've just watched it again a couple more times and I am sure he is using four fingers some of the time at least, especially in the 2nd tune. It helps if you have the Youtube settings put to full screen and slowed down to half-speed.

Nice playing for sure!

Three fingers or four probably not as important as knowing the music, and Bobby certainly does !!

Some of us play the music others are living it ( have grown up surrounded by it) which makes a big difference I think.

first tune sounds like (east/ humours of Glendart ) to me?  you can play this pretty quick on a one row, I often have to slow myself down on this tune.

others in comments on YT say different?

I don't really get ITM but I love B.G playing one row. Like so many of the best players he remembers that dance music is for dancing, this clip shows what I mean.

I have watched this video several times over many years and always enjoy it. It is interesting to me to see and hear what Bobby does with the very limited bass options on this type of box.

I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys this video to check out Bobby's melodeon and lilting album called "The Clare Shout".  You can listen to samples of it here:

This album is one of my key inspirations for playing the one-row, and it beautifully exemplifies Bobby's talent.

Here is another excellent video of Bobby tearing through a few tunes on a Hohner:

I asked Bobby about his HA114 via email in 2012 and he replied:

"The sound of the Hohner is the genuine sound of melodeon playing to my ear, However you have to work a bit harder to play reels at a very fast tempo.  ....  Charlie Harris tuned my one - his number is 091-635170 Galway."

I love the one row, and the Albrecht is superb. It doesn't have spoon basses which I could never get on with. I notice that the Irish players don't seem to use them at all. Probably makes them easier to use, methinks.

The Albrecht one row is superb, but unlike you Nick I wish it came with a spoon bass end. I sold mine on a whim and bought it back later for more than I sold it for originally ::). Doesn't get played as much as it should as I find the growing herd of 114's easier to play for longish periods...sent Kay an email asking if he could rejig the base end to spoons but didn't get a reply. Perhaps It wasn't the most tactful request..... :|bl
