Names for boxes
« on: March 11, 2017, 08:52:33 AM »

Hi gang,
Just wondering how many people have names for their favourite boxes? For instance my huge Bb/Eb is called "The Beast"  the box I made with Emmanuel Pariselle is called " The Yeovil" etc.  And the Koch will always be Malcolm Bebb's Koch. Apologies Malcolm but it couldn't be anything else.  >:E

way back it was just 'the box' with (slightly) increasing affluence it became the 'little box' ( double ray) and the 'big box' (gaelic) then the rot set in  and they multiplied prolifically and all became 'one of the boxes' or on Sundays were refered to by their make and model names!

In the world of melodeons, I would probably be described as an "oddball" as I only owned one. Over time,I did buy many boxes but was never comfortable with them and soon sold them on. However, two weeks ago, I bought a cracking wee box on ebay and is now called
Toni (AmatonaIV). My big box (gaelic).

Salty has until now been called just that. But I now realise he/she/it should really be called Pasty. Or maybe even Salty Pasty...!

Depending on the success of learning a tune, mine often gets called 'bastard'.

My wife and I just call our boxes by the make names, plus key if necessary.

The one exception is probably the one row in C which I built on Emmanuel Pariselle's Stowmarket course in 2010. That year, Emmanuel sourced some particularly nice pieces of mellow hued cherry wood for the casework and the instruments got called appropriately the 'Golden Boxes'.

Someone (a Pokerwork player) came up with an appropriate name for my Mory when picking it up for the first time, and being surprised by its weight:
'Gordon Bennett'.  ;D

Don't have names for my boxes myself but Household Management seems to find new ones each day, most unprintable !.

My good friend Adrian Crosby calls his single row melodeon 'Marilyn'
- as in Marilyn one-row.

The wife has just added. "Yes, but I'm surprised you're bored enough to reply...!"
I rest my case.
