Playford Step Stately/Jack Pudding - dots or abc?
« on: March 12, 2017, 02:23:17 PM »

Can anyone have dots or preferably abc for Step Stately, preferably (but not necessarily) in a DG friendly key? Also known as Jack Pudding apparently, not met that before.
Thanks,
Malcolm

I used a little known tool called Google and this came up on the first suggestion

http://round.soc.srcf.net/system/files/stepstately_0.pdf

It's not in D or G or ABC but you need a bit of a challenge   ;)

This is also from The Round, probably on the web site somewhere but I've had it on my home system for years.
And it's in E minor.

Malcolm, I have 3 volumes of "Playford ABC's" that I am sure came from another member on the site.  Let me know if you want them re-posted.  Maybe you already have them.

Thank you Gentlemen,
Lester, you seem to have a better relationship with Google than I do. It seems that the dance not the tune is called Step Stately, and there is another quite different tune of that name which I kept finding. And what better authority than Mr Sharpe.
Ananhata, thanks for the Em version. I think I will need to sneak in and re-capture the Liliput to get those low notes. I shall give it a go.
Steve, yes please. I remembered a discussion about them, and tried a search, but lacking success. I do have a couple of  Playford ABC compilations but they don't include this tune.
I have a list of Playford tunes, or tunes in the style of Playford dancing (Maggot Pie) which really do need the services of a Bb/Eb box. I must get one working.

Thank you, Pete.  I knew I got them from somewhere authoritative.

In Playford Volume 1, Step Stately and Jack Pudding are completely different tunes. Step Stately (1.098) is a 6/4 tune that puts me in mind, a bit, of Three Rusty Gullies. Jack Pudding (1.046) is in 6/4, as well, but it is more of a jig.
