Fingering conundrum: Vache Folle
« on: March 24, 2017, 02:11:10 PM »

Players, this song has got me twisted.

The last two measures go like this:

E G# B E G# C B
Bflat B D# E

I play a two row G/C with accidentals.  The closest I can come up with is to use these buttons, hitting them with whatever fingers are nearby.

4 1(pull) 7 4 1(pull) 6 6(pull)
1 6(pull) 7(pull) 7

I don't even have a D# as far as I can tell, so I'm just turning that into a D natural.  Am I missing something here, or is this as efficient as this nasty bit will get?

(Also, I think writing it out this way was confusing.  Maybe I should look into better ways of communicating this stuff.)

You should have a D# on button 1 G row pull.

I tried finding either the music or a youtube clip with those bars in, but didn't manage it. If you could link to a relevant clip it might help me see the nature of the problem and some possible solutions.

Damn, Theo, thanks.  I think I was so befuddled by the whole thing that I didn't remember that D# and Eflat are the same thing.

Thanks for the offer, playandteach, but I'm working from sheet music so don't have a video to share.

This is what I'm working off of.  The printed notes are the suggested fingering, but I think they are for a three row.

If I'm reading this correctly you won't have the upper octave D# on your instrument. I can't get a proper feel for the piece with such a small excerpt, but you might find that you could replace it with an F or an F# depending on the wider context. Or just repeat the B.
I take it the key signature is no sharps or flats and that the main key is A minor?
That's as much as I can tell from the extract, but I doubt you have an upper octave D#.

Thanks for your help, everybody.  I am not trying to be obtuse or secretive, just trying to get help and preserve the author's copyright at the same time.  Thanks anyway - I'll get it figured out.

Couldn't find this one but did find a rather nice mazurka of the same name by Marcel Piaud, so bonus!

Hello

I'm also working on this on a 2-row G/C and for this segment I drop to the lower octave to play the D sharp and the E, because those are the accidentals I have! In fact I have to jump between octave throughout the piece.
