« on: July 16, 2009, 03:07:07 PM »

Does anyone have any pics. of bellows under construction or the jigs used to make them etc. How many processes/layers are involved? Any/all leads gratefully received.

That's quite a machine and product range!

Have you used any of their productions, Theo?

Maybe we could all chip-in towards the cost of the bellows making machine! Are the metal corners held in place by adhesive of some kind, or just from the pressure applied by the press - 10 tons if the photo is to be believed? Can one use any old cloth that takes one's fancy to decorate the bellows or does it need special properties? Thanks everyone.

Don't really need a 10 ton weight. A bookpress is all you need - though I used this very simple contraption that I made one wet afternoon. It's all very 'Heath-Robinson' but works very effectively. Any old cloth/paper/card/leather will do - the material is primarily for show.

Well, 3.20 into the video linked by tirpous...

There's a fantastic amount of information in this video.
Q: What are the right angled notches there for in the end of the tool she uses to press the bellows diamonds into place?
(Not all the information is obvious....)

Yes have used this method a couple of times for making concertina bellows, and it would adapt very easily to making melodeon bellows. In fact you wouldn't even need a proper jig for the final section with oblong shaped bellows, as a simple adaptation of my bellows press would suffice to enable one to close up the 1st & 4th sections. The most important thing, as always, is to get one's measurements spot on - cutting with the bandsaw on the correct angle is critical.
