Spoon Leather
Barry Tolson:
I got some leather from Charlie at CGM with which to reface the 3 spoons on my project melodeon. Does the smooth side or the fuzzy side get glued to the spoon? Thanks

The glorious leather is the sealing material. Therefore glue the felt to the pallet. You don't want the open texture of the 'fuzzy' (felt) side to seal the air leak. Sorry just realised you are talking about spoons, but I am sure the same rules apply - the bit that seals the air entry is the smooth stuff. Therefore stick the open stuff (fuzzy) to the spoon?
Barry Tolson:
Thanks Playandteach. I appreciate the help.

Yes - what P&T said. Glue the felt side to the spoon and the leather acts to seal over the vent hole.
If previously the old leather facing was thin, you will find that you will need to adjust the angle by gently bending the spoon shaft to compensate for the increased thickness of the leather/felt combination. Otherwise the spoon will leak air.
Barry Tolson:
Thanks Steve!
