dry/wet tuning on a 3 stop LMH box
« on: March 30, 2017, 02:40:46 PM »

I have an old three stop one row Winner melodeon which Emmanuel Pariselle has rebuilt for me. It has three banks of Binci da mano reeds tuned low, medium, high. I normally play a four stop with the two medium reeds tuned a bit wet (don't know cents etc, I'm not very technical). Is there anyway I can get a wetter sound on the LMH configuration? Anybody ever tried this?

It usually sounds pretty horrible if you tune a tremolo on reeds that are an octave apart.

Yes - what Theo said. You need two sets of M reeds to obtain a proper tremolo, which you haven't got with LMH.
Having said that, some makers describe the LM+ combination (where M+ is tuned sharp) as the 'saxophone' voice. But in my experience it sounds fairly horrible and nothing like a saxophone.

You can hear the effect you might get by playing your existing Eric Martin one-row four-stop (which is tuned LMM+H) with the M voice stopped off, so you will be left with LM+H. You might like the sound, but I guess you probably won't!  :o
