Let's run this one again. Play a tune that you play and enjoy from your local session and/or dance side. If you don't have many sessions nearby, then perhaps something with a local connection to your area would be nice?

Cheers,

Clive

This is a variation of King of the Faeries used by a couple of local Border sides and is often called Queen of the Fairies as it is a shortened version.  Others here will know more about its history (DTN / Rob2Hook??).  I've been meaning to learn it for a while just 'cause it think it bounces along nicely, so here goes (with the odd fluff):

A couple of tunes, Old Mother Flanagan, (from an old time session), and Mickey Callaghan's Fancy (from an Essex session), neither of which  I usually play on melodeon, but which seem to fit together quite well. Hohner Four Stop in G.

Here is just about the only tune I know that is a 'Milton Keynes' tune, 'Lunch in the Pub'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FTY2GmqYVM

Often thought of as traditional, it's not of course, it's written by Pete Lockwood from the Cock and Bull Band. Nice tune that fits well on the melodeon so well, it could have been written on one, but of course... it wasn't. Around Milton Keynes music sessions, if you can find one, you'll hear this played faster, and in D on a D/G. I'm playing it on the Kay Albrecht Lilliput G/C here.

Cheers,

Clive

That's nice little tune. I stayed in Stoney Stratford a few years ago while on a training course (well, ok about 15) and had a very enjoyable lunch in the Cock, or was it the Bull? Is there an ABC file anywhere, by any chance?

Thanks - yes, Lester's recorded this too, and thoughtfully provided ABC - here you go: http://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/tune-361-lunch-at-pub.html

H'mmm.......not enough "folk" musicians around here for a session, so I run a monthly "acoustic music" session in which anything goes as long as it's played on acoustic instruments (or sung with an acoustic voice, of course!), so a session tune could be anything from Fred Pigeon's Polka No 1 to Misty, to  Pachelbel's Canon via Mustang Sally to Will You Love Me Tomorrow. I'm spoilt for choice...........

Well ... about the only local sessions round these parts are hosted by myself & Scott. Here we are playing our duet party piece.  A couple of GC Castagnari's & two older Italian boxes: the 3 voice AD Pistelli & its cousin - an AD 3 voice Guerini.

Quiet month - never mind, onto the next theme. Stick late contribs on the end as ever - just post 'em here!

I didn't get a chance to record this in April, but "better late than never" as they say.

The Blacktown Jig is getting played regularly in sessions here and as its a newish local composition I wanted to share it around a bit more. The original version is played up an octave on the fiddle and at a frantic pace (see the youtube videos) but I prefer it an octave lower at a more danceable tempo on the box - although in sessions I'd play the tune in the upper octave for a variation.
