Prog Rock On The Melodeon! Camel's "Ice"
« on: April 07, 2017, 03:16:16 PM »

Hi,

For a long time I've been looking for a way of marrying my melodeon playing to my favourite band, Camel featuring Andy Latimer on guitar.  I figured this out yesterday and recorded it today on two melodeons -  a Castagnari Lily and a Hohner Erica.  It's only the intro but it's still pretty long. This is one of my favourite pieces of music and I hope you like my interpretation of it on the box.

I've done a free lesson on how to play it with the sheet music.  I'll let you know when I've uploaded it.
Any other Camel fans out there?  Ok, it's not folk but never mind!!

Cheers

Les

That sounds fantastic! I am going to try this myself, always loved Camel. I saw them on their "Single Factor" tour at Preston Guild Hall - the support act was a standup comedian...

Have you heard their 2013 re-recording of "The Snow Goose"? Hard to believe but it is an improvement on the original. No desperately out-of-tune oboe at the end either!

Hi Steve,

Glad you liked it.  I have seen them a few times over the years.  The last time was in St. Albans in 2015 where they were simply stunning.  Yes, I have the new version of "The Snow Goose" and I agree it is better than the seventies original.  I'd love to hear my arrangement played with something suitable on the Streb!!

Nice tune, could easily be trad French or Breton.

Fancy trying some early Genesis Tony Banks keyboard solos?

I can play it perfectly on Air Mellotron in my head. Now off to see The Cinema Show.
