Shepherds Hay...Grainger style
« on: April 13, 2017, 08:43:18 AM »

Has anyone ever pulled off a performance of Shepherds Hay on melodeon with some (if not all) of Percy Grainger's cross tunes and twiddles?  I did a brief search on YouTube but haven't found anything.
I was listening to one of the orchestral performances of Shepherds Hay and maybe some of the extras added by ole Percy might be playable on a box....

I don't like to be picky but it's Shepherd's Hey not Hay. ;)

Except in the Bidford tradition where it's 'Shepherds Aye'  >:E

Isn't this one of the arrangements in the book of classical pieces reviewed by Steve some time ago and recently discussed again  Mozart something or other, he said (almost helpfully)...

No - the arrangement of Shepherd's Hey by Percy Grainger is a highly original piece for full orchestra or wind band based on the well-known tune and its variants collected by Cecil Sharp.

You can access the full score and parts here (although note copyright restrictions)

Good band performance here:
