A four stop has four reeds that can be sounded in any combination. They are normally a M and M+ to give the 'normal' melodeon sound and the other two are pitched an octave up (H) and an octave down (L) on the M reeds. Played with all four in play you get a very full sound.

Lester, I seem to recall you having posted a video a few years ago demonstrating the stops in action. This might be a very informative video for the OP?  I can't seem to find the video myself.

And on a two or three row box, stop on bass side will take the 1/3rd out of the chord making the chord more "neutral" (i.e. Neither Major nor Minor), so compatible with keys other than home keys of the instrument. For instance a D chord is same as Dm with 1/3 note omitted. Etc etcccc....

The three spoons are, on the back an air button, and on the front two spoons to give you either a bass or a chord. On a four stop you only get two basses/chords one on the push and on on the pull.

D Box - D push, A Pull
C Box - C push, G pull
G Box - G push, D pull
