Unusual Register Slide System
« on: April 28, 2017, 07:53:40 AM »

Had this 1920's instrument in for appraisal a couple of weeks ago. It had a really unusual register system that involved the reed blocks sliding back and forth to line up or block the air flow to the reeds. https://www.instagram.com/p/BTanuZPlrdD/

Interesting, I have seen a similar sliding reed block in a Hohner's Morino which would have been from the early 30s.

This was a Italian instrument. The thing that struck me as a problem was that the low reeds are in at least one case located at the heel of a valve, this would make it hard for these bassoon reeds to breathe.
I have pics a San Francisco made instrument that has a interesting and well thought out valve mechanism that I have never seen before too.
