BEWARE EBAY SIGN-IN DANGER, MANFRINI BOX
« on: April 30, 2017, 07:32:53 PM »

I've just been caught by a fake eBay sign-in page that immediately appears if you click on the latest (fake) Manfrini 3-day auction. It looks very authentic, but if you use it you've just given your eBay and PayPal password and identity to a scammer.  >:(

I immediately changed my password.

Didn't somebody post about this a day or so back?

NO, same photo but this one has only just been listed, for 3 days, and you can't even report it - which was what I was planning on doing! Steer well clear, and don't even TRY to view the page!!!  :o

The other one was a more usual kind of scam.

OK, all clear!

It looks like eBay have removed it (and no doubt a bunch more items), but be very wary if you try to look at an item (especially a £99 one) and a "new look" sign-in window appears.

Look at the address and make sure it really is eBay that you're signing into!

Does this stunt work on the phone app as well as with regular browser access?

Watch out, it's been listed again!

I'm not even going to click on it this time...  :o

How did you know it was fake?

This one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182571442406/  is listed by Robert Rolston who owns the Manfrini brand and the listing includes all his contact details you can always get in touch with Robert if you need to check.

The auction, or the sign-in page?

The auction was obviously fake because it listed an expensive accordion for a very low price (£99!), and tried to get you to contact the seller directly to buy it outside the eBay system. Whilst if you checked the seller's "other items" you'd find they were also listing all sorts of other expensive items for the same price, and on the same terms. It was obviously a stolen eBay account.

The sign-in page that kept popping up whenever you tried to look at the listing, though it looked very authentic, lacked the proper eBay address headers. It was evidently an attempt to get people to reveal their sign-in and account information, in order to steal their accounts.
