Trio Dhoore 'Vihmazurka'
« on: May 13, 2017, 10:36:48 AM »

I'm getting more and more addicted to mazurkas and my latest find is Vihmazurka, performed by Trio Dhoore on their album 'Parachute'. Simple tune but beautiful in it's simplicity, and the band arrangement is also great. I bought the album as an online download, so am lacking sleevenotes - anyone know if it's trad or composed ? Of course I could message the band I suppose !
(And did I hear that there is going to be a tunebook by Hartwin Dhoore ?!)

The're hoping to publish the tune book next year.
Thread creep - are you going to Shrewsbury FF and holding an informal French session again?

Bumped into Hartwin in Ghent 6 years back and am pleased to say that I predicted (:) a great future. He's also pretty handy on bagpipes.

Hartwin  was a bit into "flat out" then but has fot more and more sophisticated  (:) I am also a great admirer of his brother Ward, on accoustic guitar.

I sadly missed them at Sidmouth Festival last year - if I'd known how good they are would definitely have tried harder to see them perform live.

Both tunes are written by Trio Dhoore, i met them in Sidmouth last year and bought the CD.. They are described as:

Vihmazurka is Estonian for rain, The ideal weather to compose a mazurka in front of the stove / Kodumaa is Estonian for homeland and was written upon returning home after a gig at the Estonian Hiiufolk festival.

I played them both on my Loffet CF so no earworms left on these  :P   Derek

Thanks Derek. If Vihmazurka means rain I'd better stop playing it now - had enough of that here !
Think I'll play Sunshine by Greg Jolivet...

Hartwin announced marriage to Leana Vapper, of Saaremaa a couple of years back. He seems to spend a lot of his time in Estonia now. We wish him luck with the language :o but he's a clever lad!

There are very few people who can make a living playing Estonian bagpipes.
