The bass layout looks interesting.  Can anyone offer any information on the instrument being played here?

I was mesmerised by the agility of the players fingers, especially the right hand, which is technically superb.  I can see that the skill is amazing, the technical discipline must have taken huge dedication to achieve, but the end result leaves me wondering why anyone would want to do that.  Brilliant playing but for me it is lacking in soul.

C'mon Theo, lighten up... People just want to have fun sometimes. Put away a few beers, forget the cares of the world, crank up the speed and the volume and let loose.

It's not what I'd choose to listen to either, but I can easily picture situations in which it would get people going pretty nicely.

The instrument is a Schwyzeroergeli, the Swiss diatonic folk accordion. Information on Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwyzer%C3%B6rgeli, and, possibly more info than most might want, on the Swiss Folk Music site:
http://www.folkmusic.ch/publish/schwyzeroergeli.asp. Follow the links near the bottom (ending "Sicht") for keyboard layouts and construction diagrams, and "Galerie" for pictures. The bass is a stradella sub-set, like a Hohner Trichord, but upside down compared with what we're used to. The main tuning is Bb (known as B in Switzerland and Germany (and Austria?) - H denotes B natural).
