Hohner Amatona
davidd:
I have a question about the Hohner Amatona 3 voice accordion I hope someone can help with. Is the version with the buttons for couplers newer or older than the one with the rocker switches? Does one version tend to be better? Thanks,
David
triskel:
The Amatona III and IV with round couplers are older davidd, they're what are in my February 1957 Bell's catalogue, whilst my next one, from October 1958 lists only the new Amatona IV model with the "rocker switch" couplers.

Thanks, Stephan. I am looking at a very nice Amazon and I was just curious which version was older. From what I have been able to find, it appears that these models appear to have been a very well built accordion. Now it is off to convince my comptroller to approve a purchase!

So these examples could be from 1957 or earlier? Any idea of the first introduction of this model?

Andy:
No direct experience of the Amatona but my understanding is that the BC has this, not very usefull, bass layout:

So if you were planning to make use of the basses you would probably need to factor in an allowance for retuning them.
Think the Amatona was available in a few different tunings - not sure what the basses are like on the others.
