I have been assisting Emmanuel on his courses for the last 3 years. The question often comes up about the skills required and the tools required for the courses. No previous craft skills are required, only the willingness to 'have a go'. There is plenty of help to ensure that everyone will be successful in making a fine instrument. From now on all tools will be provided including screwdrivers, craft knives, rulers etc. This means that it is not necessary to take sharp objects on flights or Eurostar etc. Those course members who wish to bring there own hand tools are very welcome to do so of course. I hope this helps.

The 2 Swedes were building melodeons in 2016 in Embraud. One Swede (= me) built his D/G this summer in Embraud.  It was a great experience. Different from building the one row in 2008 (Stowmarket). Now we all worked, slept, ate and drank (no beer) at the same place. 12 happy builders from Sweden, Bristol, Belgium, Holland, US and France. If you have some woodwork experience you will find the pace during the 9 days relaxing and Emmanuel and the assistance/tuner are very helpful if you run into some difficulties. It is always useful to know French in France but not needed for this course. I can only order beer in French but that was of no use for the days in Embraud that was all in white, red or rose.

I guess the framework will be the same in Gouax as in Embraud, but slightly different since it is a different place. But I am sure it will be a great experience and you will come home with a great new melodeon.

There have been two people who have dropped out of the course this July in France.   Contact Emmanuel at emmanuel.pariselle@wanadoo.fr

There is still the possibility of another place becoming available on the course in July.

It is sooooo tempting!

I wonder who the 2 Swedes were.

It would be interesting to hear their story.
I think I have just worked out who the other Swede is. I would have loved to be there but cant justify the expense!

I attended and it exceeded all my expectations! Great experience, beautiful location & food and many new friends. Attached are photos of the whole group and my new BbEb instrument.

Kudos to Theo for tuning over 1500 reeds in a few days time. France TV even showed up and did a nice segment on the international gathering. I extracted the part about our workshop and have posted to my YouTube channel:

Formidable!

Elderly amateur musician hoping to stave off dementia by learning to play the melodeon.  Main instrument a Tommy, also D/G and G/C pokerworks,  a single row 2 stop Hohner, and a new addition to the free reedery, a rather splendid Paolo Soprani four voice 120 bass c-system chromatic button accordion.  Very shiny, very loud, and about the same size and weight as a small car.  Now I’ve traded me Benny with (ahem) a cash adjustment, to a three voice 60 bass Castagnari K3.

Sorry for the late reply, Joan.

My 2.6 row 14 bass Pariselle workshop box weighs ~4.2 kg with one strap attached to it. Ergo very light for such a versatile and big box. (:)

Emmanuelle's Emmanuel's English is really excellent, especially within melodéon vocabulary.

You will not need French chez lui 😉 And it’s a lovely place (crackling hailstorms, on occasion)

Emanuelle’s
Emmanuel
The suffix -elle is in the feminine form of the name (and other names).
As an aside, the origin of these kind of names are masculine Hebrew names, but the sound of the ending made it sound feminine in French, hence why it branched out into that territory as well.

Do you have a Hohner from 1934-1945 with a serial number on?
Send me a private message or comment on the German Accordion Problem spreadsheet to improve the statistics of the project and get an estimate of the production date of the box if it is not known.
