At Arty's excellent suggestion, let's do a tune form somewhere other than the country you live in, or indeed the music you normally play - step outside the comfort zone for a bit, eh? Anything goes!

Not an original arrangement by any means.  Learnt from the playing of Andy Cutting on "Banquet of Boxes".

Thanks for the kind words chaps.  I haven't had that box too long (<1 year), but am enjoying the variety of sounds that are available (as well as the F-natural chord).

Here's a contribution on this theme: La Bataille dans le Petit Arbre, a truly beautiful cajun waltz.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwcKxjhvDMM&t=9s

I found one reasonably authentic sounding version of it on Amazon music (it has words!), but this is closer to the Kathryn Tickell Band's (from whom I nicked it) version which is not very similar at all. 2 things of note: it's in A mixolydian on a D/G Mory, and it needs a low G note that you either have or you don't :-) In my case I have it, but my goodness, it's in an awkward place, and it makes the whole of that turnaround phrase tricky tricky tricky.

Cheers,

Clive

Here is my offering.  I have been trying to play this for quite some time - it is a lovely tune and a good exercise for finger deftness and timing, neither of which I have mastered yet!

La Polka Italienne.  Complete with the odd fumble etc ......

Rumanian - Hora Mare? There's ABC code at:

http://abcnotation.com/tunePage?a=trillian.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/Balkan/HoraMare/0000

Trying to learn this on the concertina - sore finger ends...

Not clear to me that this is the 'title' of this tune, or whether it's an example of a 'type' of
(dance) tune. Great tune though.

Here's a couple of waltzes for this month from opposite sides of the big pond.
The first tune is RONAS VOE. Composed in the 1950’s by Shetland accordion and piano player Ronnie Cooper.
This second tune was composed by Andy DeJarlis (1914-1975) of Woodridge, Manitoba. He named it "La Valse du Beau Canton" [The Beautiful Village Waltz] more commonly now known as Louis Waltz.

Here's one from a couple of years back that fits the bill...I actually got to visit Kingston Town many years ago , and I have fond memories of that place and time. Played here on my mini-melodeon, and accompanied by six string uke.   Jamaica Farewell

These are really beautiful and so sensitively played. Wow!

Here's my go at that catchy Xotis we hear on the internet, from Catalonia, I think. Definitely "somewhere else" for me.

Thanks all - end of the month, and time for a new theme; stick late entries on the end here as ever :-)
