« on: July 13, 2017, 07:23:14 PM »

Hi All,
I came across this the other day, just wondering has anyone any information on it?
It says on the grille: Made in US zone Germany and the date is in German : 17 May 1962
No makers name on it.

I can't really help on that one Jimmy. It looks like Klingenthal job with a Yankee grille.

hi jimmy, hello again.   I think I remember a box like yours with the name "rigolletto".    I have found an old topic on this one in 2015.  "rigolletto accordions and harmonicas".
they were made by "kostler & co ", from nauheim.     I hope you can find the old story, there is some interesting details. unfortunately the pictures don't show!  if someone has an image to compare with your box , that will make identification easy.   others will come along soon.
  bye brian..

Yes, it looks similar to the Rigoletto from Chicago, except that one was made with "Helikon" basses and the trumpets for them on the bass end.

Here's a link to the thread: Rigoletto accordions and harmonicas

As I posted a few days ago, all my photos (and lots more people's too) are being held to ransom by Photobucket, who suddenly want $400 per annum for hosting them. It's the ruination of lots of blogs, and many, many good threads on lots of internet hobby forums, at the moment...  :(

Photobucket seem to think hobby users should pay the same fee as professional ones, when their service used to be free.

I think it's an illusion brian. But you may have seen such buttons on a 2-row D/C# Baldoni, Bartoli...

The wooden bass mechanism is exactly the same as that on my miniature no-name. But it may well be a common design, I suppose?

Here's the helikon-bass one:

And a red one in AD also with helikon basses. Could be for sale (stateside) if anyone's interested.

I have one that is very similar.
I bought it in June for 12 pounds.
"Star" and "Stahlstimmen" are the only things you can read.
Same appearance and basic mechanism.
Very similar leather straps. Same color.

The grill is different and the air button is also slightly different.

Mine leaked around the holes in the fondo and the pallets were in bad condition, so I've made new pallets and glued the fondo. It's now playable, but I do not know what key it is.

some of the treble reed plates seem to have a diagonal makers mark across the corner?  I think there as been mention of these marks before?      anyway the valves/leathers look in good shape, you have yourself a nice player there.     brian..

The diagonal marking isn't a maker's mark, it only denotes "this way up" for the tuner...

I've recently seen an earlier Rigoletto on eBay that's distinctly like that (probably to simplify manufacture with a wooden action), but it was a wartime one dated 14 June 1940, so made whilst Köstler were still in Graslitz (which was in the Sudetenland, annexed by Hitler, 1938-45) and only 5 kilometres/3 miles from Klingenthal in Saxony (where the Czech border is down a turning off the main street - been there, seen that!)
