Italy vs Germany?
« on: July 27, 2017, 07:10:16 PM »

Another in the long list of melodeons in films...... for reasons which need not concern us here I was looking for Dean Martin's "That's Amore" when I came across this YouTube clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFSv-tq5GAY   What's interesting (or not!) isn't that the actor has never played a box in his life, but that the box in question is a Hohner.  I know Hollywood has scant regard for the real world, but........   ;D ;D

... the actor has never played a box in his life...

I especially like the way he tends to hold the bass side steady and move the treble end in and out-like we all do when we play without any straps.

Yeah - I'm a bit shocked that a film starring Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis is lacking in historical accuracy!   ;)

Anyone with a good ear can tell that while the box is German it has been overhauled and has quality italian Binici reeds fitted.Reality sometimes is not so clear.

No, I think the soundtrack suggests it is a midi box.  I distinctly heard a large string section.

You mean something like:

An angler grizzled and hoary
Was asked for his favourite story.
To explain the appeal
Of an eight-foot long eel
He simply replied, "That's a Moray"

I'll get me coat......

Or:

A box player, Angus McStorey,
Was learning to play "Tunes of Glory".
He said, "I'll go faster
If I play a Casta;
That's simply because that's a Mory.."

OK, I'll stop now.... :|glug :|glug
