What key do you play that waltz in Kev? I'm trying to learn it and the chords I have are in G which doesn't seem quite right. I think it was in Am when Mr Reed wrote it.

I'm a Yorkie!
My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.

Here's a couple of waltzes for you; neither of which are on my "recommended" list :-)

Valse Gitanes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avjVZp-UH3I ; a Chavannee classic written by Eric Montbel, and here played on a Hohner Club C/F in C. Fits on any 2 row beautifully. Isn't it funny how some of the best tunes to fit a melodeon aren't actually written by melodeon players?

La Petit Bal Marine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTuk-Al1zpQ ; Fran├žois Deguelt's musette waltz, learned from the playing of great french musician, Marc Perrone. This version is in Am and G (on a G/C Hohner Lilliput conversion by Kay Albrecht); pretty much the only way you can sensibly fit it on a 2 row 8 bass instrument. The original was in Am and A I think. This is a quick, early attempt at this at resurrecting this (first attempted 25 years ago) - the version by, for example, 21 Boutons shows I've some way to go, but the video has picked up a dislike within literally a couple of minutes of me posting it! It's not *THAT* bad! We're up the dusty end for this one.

Enjoy folks,

Clive

They're great Clive. There is a an abc of Le Bal Marine taken from 21 boutons on The Session site. My and player has crashed can someone convert it into sheet music for me?  I'll definitely learn these waltzes. They will fit the lower octave on my instrument with the low G#.

La Petit Bal de la Marine, at the Embraud course.

Here's Emmanuel sketching it out as he tries out the GC bando melodeon I made with him last month in France. Nice chromatic bass, helped by those extra two bass buttons, I expect.

And a lovely-sounding box it is, too. You must be so pleased with it!

That's just lovely Jack. There was a DG one I played briefly in Witney that was exceptional, and this seems equally nice - just the low reeds being played here I think, is it Bandoneon or 3 voice?
And just out of interest, is that two 2 and a half row GCs you have now? I can always find a home for one of them.

Thanks, Arty, just had a look at it, and listening to Emanuel Pariselle play it on the low reeds of the GC, it struck me that it lies better in the low octave (of course he was playing it up the dusty end with low reeds - I think).

Ah ha, I'm not the only one who went for that configuration then ;D
Did you have a go on the F/Bb bandoneon tuned box he has lying around? That thing's crazy low-pitched.

Here's Valsen Til Christine, taught to me by the marvellous Mr Freereeder who performed this at Melodeons at Witney two years ago I think??

Literally only had time for one go at this so apologies that you can see a) half a melodeon face and b) very little right hand - I had to wedge my mobile in a set of headphones so it was the best I could manage! :)

Vicky.

p.s. I've just noticed you can hear my kids arguing over the end of this too!

I think your mobile recording looks and sounds better than all the gizmos I've tried. Well played too.
