UK FOLK MUSIC AND DANCE - New Website
« on: August 04, 2017, 09:42:31 AM »

For members with long memories, you might recall that I used to run a folk music website which I closed down at the start of 2016.

I have re-launched a website as UK Folk Music and Dance and members might be interested that we list hundreds of Folk Clubs and Morris Sides across the UK.

Please have a look and see if it's of any use to you.
https://ukfolkmusic.uk

Thanks
Alan

Can anyone spot me? 10 pints if you can.
Pink hat (as per your avatar?) yellow coat behind the mandolinist?

If so I shall claim my ten pints when next we meet.

Nope, sorry. And it's points not pints. And we all know what points mean?

How about on Alan's right with the concertina for my 'where's Stevie' entry?

Whatever Humph may have said, points most definitely mean pints, its The Law........

Are you wearing the pink hat behind Sam Sweeney (it might be his body double)?

No, that's my wife Jan (in the pink hat).

Purple dress perchance ?

Both right! Actually it's a purple skirt, with a black top but we'll not split hairs here.
Yes - it's me in my Ouse Washes Molly kit, playing a concertina which I'd recently sold to Keith Kendrick, the bald chap to my left.

10 points a-piece to Syale and Mike. As we all know, points mean prizes,  so I'll do the honours next time I see you.

Apologies to Alan Morley for somewhat hi-jacking his thread, but also with a request that he includes Ouse Washes Molly Dancers in his list of teams please.

Just a small correction, Whitby Folk Club is not at the Plough - moved to the Fisherman's Rowing Club some years ago.

Nice, simple, informative site. Thank you.

I've pointed it out to members of the Morris side who are unlucky
enough to have acquired my 'services'.

Morris pictures taken at the Buxton Day of Dance? 2016 or earlier?

Just a small correction, Whitby Folk Club is not at the Plough - moved to the Fisherman's Rowing Club some years ago.

....  just along a bit to the Friendship Rowing Club.... every Thursday night, the first part of the evening 8pm to 9pm is a 'meet and greet' chat and tune swap, from 9pm to 11.30pm is the 'folk club proper' run as a sing/play a round  ;D :|||:

No, but I'm on the photo too, complete with wife and two of my three daughters!

That's 40 bonus points  up for grabs!

(I know this is a bit of delayed response, but this thread just got linked from another, more current, one, and I've just seen it for the first time)

I'd like to recommend a folk club for adding to your list. It's the Central Bar in Gateshead. Right next to the Tyne Bridge, on Hill Street, it meets every 3rd Thursday of the month from 12.30 till 3.30. Being in the afternoons, it attracts many old codgers (or should I say senior citizens?) but was a lot of fun when I attended for the first time last week, with some really accomplished participants in the singaround format.
