whilst I am not keen on backstraps even on the 96 bass gaelic  and for most playing don't use one   the exeption  being when playing for a ceilidh when  a strap sliding off the shoulder mid dance would be  a a bit of a disaster  - and that's usually on a 3 v0ice 2 row 8 bass serenellini which is my box of choice for ''english'' ceilidhs/ barn dances etc
