Another, new for me, Breton tune...
« on: August 05, 2017, 07:40:04 PM »

I am enjoying working through some of the tunes on Yann-Fanch Perroches' website.
Here's the latest one, not perfectly played by any means but I am learning a lot of new things from this music and I am enjoying it.
This one is quite dramatic - "Melodie Gavotte"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmtJ37T7Zc4

Very nice! I'll be adding that to my (growing) list of tunes to learn!

Lovely! I like the use of your thumb for the accidentals, very neat.  (:) N

Thank you Willh and nigelr, a little encouragement goes a very long way!

Over the last few years, I have stupidly dismissed Breton music as being too repetitive and sometimes rather tuneless. This is the second piece I have learned and I must say I am learning a lot. There are some really good musicians who are committed to Breton music, e.g. Yann-Fãnch Perroches and Alain  Pennec, my gosh can they play! Those two have proved me to be totally wrong in my ideas and I can't stop playing the CD's I have of each of them.
They seem to use a lot of 'decoration', grace notes, trills etc., and that is what I am trying to get to grips with at the moment. Here is a good example: https://youtu.be/FngIjAYFquU

In the meantime, I keep groping along in the dark, learning bit by bit and loving it!  (:)

That is really sweet, David. I've loved that tune for a long time, but just never brought it into my front brain to play.

If I could recommend one more breton box player for you: Patrick Lefevbre. I wrote a piece about him here

http://accordeonaire.blogspot.com/2011/03/tribute-accordeon-gavotte.html

So, the thing is that he plays both diato and chromato button accordions. Don't let this dissuade you from the joy. There is a lot to learn from his sheer musicality.

Ignore if CBA is triggering for you.   (:)

Thank you Gary, I will have a good look this evening. At the moment I am supposed to be working! I have no problem with a CBA  ;)
