Benammi Swift - star of the future!
« on: August 13, 2017, 11:13:56 AM »

Whilst at Sidmouth last week I decided to check out Benammi Swift who had befriended me on Facebook.  He was doing a handful of gigs, one of which was at the Methodist Church where about six men and a dog turned up.

Well, to say I was blown away is an understatement!  He plays his Handrys (yes he has two!!) like they were Lilys - such power!  Apart from being able to play at blistering speed, he is also incredibly tasteful and knows how to use the dynamic range of this box to full effect.

Chatting to him afterwards he announced that he was awaiting his A level results.  Really?  Eighteen?!!  Unbelievable.  I sat with Derek The Nutter the next day at The Bedford who knows him really well and who helped configure Benammi's Handrys along with Saul Rose, his tutor (who was also there watching this very likeable chap).

If this young man doesn't become a star in the future then there is no justice.  If you haven't already, seek him out and be amazed as I was!

It's in the genes, his dad (Tufty Swift) was a bit good as well.

Jo Freya mentioned that as she was on after him.  Such a sad story about his dad.  He would have been so proud of his boy!

Jo told the audience that his dad (Tufty) passed away when Benammi was very young (a toddler I think she said) and thus never saw how his son grew up to be the brilliant player he is.

Don't forget that Benammi is a member of this forum and will probably read this thread.

Tufty Swift was a huge influence on my generation of melodeonists. He was a very funky one-row player. R.I.P that man.
