« on: August 16, 2017, 01:42:16 PM »

SPECIALLY COMMISSIONED CASTAGNARI.
Acorn Instruments will be launching a new Castagnari Melodeon at Whitby Folk Festival next week.
The Melodeon was specially commissioned by us and the people who have tried it so far had a big smile on their face when they played it.
Come and try it in the Leisure Centre,West Cliff we are there all week.

Seeing as you've commissioned it, do you get the opportunity to name it, Pete?

Not exactly, Helena. I'd thought that Pete might name it in remembrance of his wife, actually.

When you have time, Pete, how about some details?  Reeds, stops tuning, etc?

Hope the fish & chips are up to scratch and all goes well at Whitby.

Rob.

There are details on the Facebook page.  Two voice, thirds out stop and tipo a mano reeds IIRC.

I'd be interested to know what the stand out features are between this and other models - is it size, reeds, woods?

I've had a brief play on this and the stand out features are the way it plays and sounds.  How the makers have achieved this is less important than the end result. It's a peach, pure and simple.

I played it yesterday and absolutely loved it. Such a bright sound when you play it hard, and exceptionally responsive when you want to be softer and more expressive. I couldn't put it better than Theo - it's an absolute peach. I described it as a 'Laura with attitude', though that's not to denigrate Lauras, which are lovely boxes.

Surely 'Quercus' would be more apt. Seeing as it's grown out of an Acorn.

That sounds like something out a Terry Pratchet book John!

That box looks gorgeous. I shall have to get up close and personal with it at Whitby.

Really nice design!  The wood does the talking and a few flowing lines add the personal touch.  Just lovely.
