70s-era Corona II - A good box to buy?
« on: August 18, 2017, 03:20:18 PM »

I'm currently talking to someone about buying a 70s-era A/D/G Hohner Corona II.

He says he wants a little under £500 for it (price in negotiations).

It seems to be in good shape, but I've not played it. Only seen pictures and they look very good. By the way, he's a repairer/seller, so I'm not worried he's trying to foist some piece of junk on me. He'd have long since gone out of business if that's how he operated.

Does this sound like a good buy based on brand/model? Would really like an A/D/G box to play with others locally. As much as I love my Club, C/F won't get me invited around to sessions. :)

Thanks,

Will

Nice box, good era, good keys and good price, even if you have to spend a bit of extra money on it to get it fettled a bit. Mind you - if it's the one which Martyn White is advertising, you can ignore that last bit. You can be sure it will be in good condition and tuning.  (:)

Thanks, Steve.

No, it's not Martyn's, but I'm going to contact him now as the other one is dearer and I need to save money! :D

Plus, if it's a box being sold by someone known here at Melnet, that's very reassuring.

I appreciate the tip.

I got one of those boxes you can swap out the blocks and thro some GCF later on if needed 😂

Anyone that repairs should be able to handle a Corona ii. I got my ADG i was able to swap the reed blocks with some modern BESAs BeBba the sound is not as solid but the swap was a success 😂

These are very popular with the Tex-mex crowd in the US.

I only just found this out a few days before I bought my Corona and was really surprised!

There's even a "sister forum" here:

https://www.reyesforo.com

And an excellent thread about the Corona in all its iterations:

Interesting stuff.
