Hello all,

I rather liked the combined format last month, so let's do it again this month! This time, schottisches, of any persuasion; doesn't really matter what tradition they're from, any schottische will do just fine thank you very much. A few suggestions:

- Canal in October; the classic Frederic Paris schottische that is such a session staple everywhere; there's an earlier TOTM thread with lots of versions here - take your pick! http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,5088.0.html

- La Sansonette; another classic, this time written by Dominique Forges - a bit harder, requires an accidental. Lots of versions here in a previous TOTM thread here: http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,18712.0.html and yours truly has done a tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LTpTEYAGQk

- Blue Sausage Island; if that's too easy for you, try this; no video for this one (though you can find ones for other instruments on youtube), but we have a thread discussing it with ABC (thanks Chris) here: http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php?topic=2100.0 - written by Cliff Stapleton, who does *lots* of great tunes, and insanely difficult on melodeon.

... or anything else that takes your fancy of course! Have fun - looking forward to seeing your videos!

Cheers,

Clive

The Lad Wt the Plaidie: Speaks for itself, as does the reason that it is slower than the 138bpm recommended on this forum, (strong legs to dance at this speed).

Here's a Scottische I took a fancy to whilst in a Euro Dance workshop at Sidmouth last month - used by the lovely Kerry Fletcher for a Scottische en Ronde.
It's a traditional Auvergne tune called Plante un Chou - also known as Plant un Cao.

Firstly, the professional version as played by a band called Gentiane in 1975, which included Jean Blanchard on melodeon - starting one minute in.

This is my take on it - still a work in progress, but I am busy for the rest of the month so it was now or never.

I love that tune - been playing it for years, and still don't get tired of it. Well worth the effort of learning - thanks for posting :-)

Cheers Bill - great as ever? Is there a recommended bpm? :-) Depends on the tradition I guess - thanks for posting anyway!

Last Minute Schottische, an excellent tune composed by Guus Harremans (from what I can tell). There is a link to the tutorial in the video description box.

A Schottisch from around Dresden from the midst of the 19th century.

Try again, no idea why it didn't appear.
Actually I do remember something like this happening before, but sorted now.
Last Minute plus countermelody attached.
I've noticed I've missed off the last bar chord symbol. Bar 32 should have an E chord for the last 2 beats (also bar 24)

Here we go folks - Blue Sausage Island!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB8TSJ4d6IM

This is difficult, certainly well past my level of comfort, so you can expect lots of melodeon face and concentration in the "interpretation". Written by Cliff Stapleton, gurdy player and composer extraordinaire. We're in D minor on a C/F and there are a couple of accidentals in frequent use (Bb and F natural in D/G speak, both on the pull), but other than that, it's perfectly playable on a 2 row 8 bass.

I would have liked to hear more scottisches here this month but what are here are good.
Here is a video of three which we played in a local pub a while ago.
Scottisches:- du Pere Haques, a Bethanie and Derriere Les Carreaux.

Here's a late entry for the schottische theme. I've only ever heard Dave Ball play this so probably not widely known; a bit of a quirky tune.

Thanks all - end of the month (shame, I've just learned up a *fantastic* schottische) - will just have to post it on the end of this topic, as should you for anything else you come up with!

Cheers,

Clive
