Sex and Drugs and Old Joe Clark

Was looking up Old Joe Clark and was surprised to find that Ian Dury stated he nicked the main riff from Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll.

Well you live and learn.

Aha! I'd never made that connection but so obvious now.

Lester - star status is achieved!
Belting tune and yes, good old Ian Drury.
I remember Flowers and Frolics covering some of his stuff soon after it came out, as they said it was simply modern music hall!
....and Ian Drury and the Blockheads were great to watch. I was lucky to see live when in their heyday.
cheers

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

Well I never. This is why I love this forum, for this obscure melodeonic trivia.

I'd like to have seen Ian Dury, but at least The Blockheads are still playing. Will probably go see them in their 40th anniversay year at Norwich Arts Centre in December.

In fact the Blockheads were headlining at Towersey the other weekend!

Ian Dury also based 'Hit me with Your Rhythm Stick' on all the inexpertly thrashed bodhrans at sessions.
