How far along the valve should be glued.
« on: September 15, 2017, 05:42:23 PM »

Leather valves on the bass side, glued not just at the base but also to the sides of the reed slot for about 1/3 rd of the slot length. Too consistent to have been done accidentally. I am still thinking this is not right but just wanting to check with folk that will know for sure.

Thanks

My rule of thumb for leather valves is to apply glue for about 1 1/2 times the width of the valve. It probably travels a bit further when the valve has s pressed into place, but half way along the slot seems excessive.

Thanks Theo

Thought it wasn't quite right but useful to have that confirmed.
