L'air Mignonne, Simon Riopel
arty:
The night before last I had a real treat. I went to a concert by a band called Ímar. They were astonishing and I came out exhausted by the energy on the stage and my hands hurt from clapping. If you get a chance to see them, go!
One tune that they played and I particularly enjoyed, was called "L'Air Mignonne", written by Simon Riopel. Here is Ímar's version: https://youtu.be/hur5jYWD9B4
Then, this morning I found this on You Tube, which I also really enjoy: https://youtu.be/RoSjIIHNiP8
The sheet music and abc is here: https://thesession.org/tunes/14109
A good tune to practice all those twiddly bits, I think!
Just thought I would share it....a candidate for Tune of the Month maybe?

Yes, they're very good, not heard them before, but was aware of the fact that the wonderful concertina player Mohsen Amini was playing in this new band.
He also plays in the band Talisk - check them out if you haven't heard them yet. I have their CD "Abyss" and it's absolutely fantastic!
Chris Ryall:
Hmm, nice tune, nicely played as unison, but I found the B part a tad dull. Basically just the same motif moved up a 3rd? I like a bit more "question - reponse", even a rhythm vartiation would have leavened things.
I suspect a group of this ability could break out of tune a bit more, some lead breaks, but that's not everyone's tradition. Just "to my ear". Its simplicity would make it a great base for an improvised line?
Myndmusic:
I quite agree, Arty. I managed to see them at Sidmouth and Bromyard which were both great performances. The Sidmouth one at the Bulverton was especially good as the venue allowed people to dance.
I was pointed in Imar's direction by my son who taught me L'air Mignonne from The Session version which is in A. (https://thesession.org/tunes/14109)
Chris, I think the 'repetition' and simplicity is actually what makes this tune work, but each to their own ... Imar follow L'air Mignonne with the far more complex Luke Skywalker Walks On Sunshine which is also on The Session as a set.
Barry M:
What a great tune
I like the repeated notes, repetition and simplicity are fine with me, not sure I'll manage all the twiddly bits though
Thank you Arty for bringing that to my notice
