WE may have discussed caravans and sheep on a melodeon forum. I think we got away with it.... >:E

(whispers shetlands..)
You may have, if I manage to lose my list :-X

Actually I think it's already gotten away from me (:)

You sure it was not a baaagpipe players forum

I think in Wales that’s known as a shag pipe.

This thread seems to be winding down so here is a summary of the common things we like to do.
Feel free to keep contributing.

This has been interesting to see some of the other interest which we share. I think we covered most of the normal things that people do (as expected), so I guess we're not so weird ( insert, melodeon players) after all.  :||: :|||: :Ph
Thanks everyone!!

Biking is a great hobby, I use to bike everywhere when I was younger.
I should get a Mountain bike for there are some great trails in a place near where I live (Dogtown in Gloucester / Rockport Ma.) it's about three thousand acres of woods/ water shed conservation land in the middle of cape Ann. Most people live on the coast here and I been surprised by the fact that most people that have lived here their whole lives have never been there. Me on the other hand,  I have walked just about every trail out there. Crazy that some don't know about the things around them.

I knit and dye yarn (not necessarily in that order)

If you think MAD is a thing, you should see yarnies and their stash.

Cycling - raced/time-trialled until mid-fifties (age not year!) when the 'veteran' category was from 40 year-olds and onwards. Then I gave up trying to beat 40 year olds and stuck to enjoying my hobby!  Bikes still owned - Ex-TDF yellow Linda McCartney Team bike (Pricipia), bought when the team disbanded and high-end mountain bike (Marin Mount-Vision Pro) for the tracks of Devon.  And then, there is surfing - a life-long year-round habit, as I've lived by the sea for my entirety!

Thanks for the contributions, this thread is still has some life (:)
I added biking for I missed that, two others also said they like to do that.

My brother in law plays a claw hammer banjo bluegrass/ folk mainly, I like that instrument and probably would give it a try if I wasn't MAD

Interesting that a lot of people are also into bicycling. I'm very keen on it, both for everyday transportation (I commute daily using a bike made in Stratford-Upon-Avon - my Anglophilia at work again) and also for recreation (in September I rode a 200 km trip in what they call randonneuring in the US or Audax in the UK).

With winter coming, the recreational season is pretty much done here, which makes it a good time for woodshedding with my new melodeon!

I gave up clawhammer banjo last year. Sold my Bart Reiter  1992 Grand Concert.
I've owned 3 Bart Reiters, another custom Grand Concert and a Regent (best of the three) as well as about 10 other banjos. Started playing around 1972.

About 5 years ago, I gave up anglo concertina in favour of 5-string banjo. Annie and I wanted a non-free reed option for song accompaniment, so my 2 Crabbs and my Jeffries were replaced by a modern Deering Vega Senator and a Dave Stacey custom. Of course there was enough change from the transactions to pay for serious building work on our house! I've since added a 1934 Alex Burns plectrum guitar, on which I employ various banjo tunings.
Cheers

Looks like a lot of us were lucky enough to have careers that fed at least one of our interests.

This is true. I work in education reform in the states and not only am I genuinely fascinated by it, but I feel it matches my values. JUST LIKE THE MELODEON!

I am very lucky.

Sewing.  Vintage,  historical and cosplay.
Bit of dancing but that's something I dip in and out of.
Any kind of handicrafts really.

I'll dip back in:
Keen mountain biker until 2010 when constant colds and infections for ~ 4 months broke the habit, a result of working in a virus factory. Some people call them schools.
Still have a Cotic that will get ridden again, and anyone after a classic steel Bontrager give me a shout!
The up-side to breaking the habit was 'perhaps instead of a new bike, I'll get a melodeon to share with my daughter' after she attended one of Ed Rennie's Beginner melodeon workshops at Chippenham festival.
She didn't take to it and....the rest is history  they say!

Thanks for your contribution Ladydetemps,
I should learn to sew then I could patch my pants with the worn out knees ( almost every pair I've got)
I do small sewing button repair, some patches by hand but they never turn out good. I've done some cross stitching stuff, tedious but it turned out quite nice when completed. And yes I can cook, clean and do my own laundry when needed. I do the cleaning but my wife usually does the other.
My Mom taught My brothers and I well, really more like if you want it done you better get busy doing it. I been wanting to do step dancing but have not made the effort to do as of yet, maybe soon.

Thanks Q,
My wife works at one of those virus factories, so I know what you mean.
I'm glad that your melodeon sharing idea worked out for you.
That gives me an idea I wonder if I could interest my wife into sharing one ;)
Cheers,
Michael
