Another Albrecht
« on: September 24, 2017, 03:03:25 PM »

Hi
last week I had the pleasure of meeting Kay Albrecht and picking up my new box. :|||:
It's absolutely georgous! I didn't really specify much except a two row, two voice, G-scale, 8 bass similar to Squeezy's box.
I've attached a few photo. It's small and compact, slighty thinner but taller than my honeywood hohner and at ca 3,5 kg about 500g heavier (according to the bathroom scales). I am really smitten with the new design with the curved  grill and the brass inlay.
It plays beautifully, I love the full bass sound which needs a little more air, there are two stops, one for the thirds and another to remove the extra bass reed.
I'll try and find the courage to do a video but I'm a bit of a whimp when it comes to recording :-[ so it might take a while.

I'm really keen to hear it. It looks timeless.

That is a sweet looking box, I like the grill also, what kind of wood is that? Looks like a burl of something, maple maybe.

I'd guess Walnut or even Ash. But I like it whatever it is.

The wood is jarrah burl, a member of the eucalyptus family. The box has a sort of retro thing going for it and it's underlined by the choice of wood which is quite open pored and has a very visible structure so the box seems to have a natural patina and doesn't come across as too new but more like a much loved older instrument.  :-*  8)

That's a work of art, isn't it! I'm still in total love with my Albrecht Lilliput conversion; the guy is a genius.

I've failed to find any website that might show instruments choices, prices, contact etc.
How do I find out more?

That is a beautiful looking box - and I'm sure it sounds as good as it looks!

That sure is a real beauty among boxes :P
Any video clips coming up?
Albrecht is definitely next investment if the lady in the house allows a new family member (:)

I've tentatively made contact and had a fast response. I was hoping the lead in time would be enough for me to save up, but he has time to make one in the next few months. Is there anyone in the North of England that has one I could try out briefly to find out more about them?

It seems to be the bellow that make it higher?

I'm also seeking a high end D/G 8bass MM box - I hadn't thought of Kay A until I came across this thread and am now also hoping for a video to help the decision - any chance anyone??
I assume the build quality is much the same as was described when he first started making the single-row instruments and which impressed all who saw.

Thanks Tyker - couldn't ask for a better demo.  It's a very distinctive sounding instrument, which I like. I wonder if any players of the Castagnari JIlly at Witney can make comparison, as that is my current desire - I haven't seen or played either box.
