Might well try it without basses but certainly won't be attempting it on one row. Trickier than it looks.

My contribution-
I just started learning this one, it should be in G but I'm playing it in D.
Also I'm not playing all the notes in the run down (missing out the triplets)
I pretty much picked it out by ear so I'm probably not playing it "right" and I just started using GarageBand Ian's post reminded me that I had it, so I thought I'd try it.
I've been paring it with the Galway hornpipe as I think they go good together.

I've been looking around for reels to play for Irish set dancing and the Humours of Ballyconnell is one that I think will be manageable at 120bpm on the D/G box. The video is pretty basic, just using my laptop's webcam and mic.

My style of playing won't win any prizes at the fleadh but the local Irish set dancers enjoy a bit of 'spark' to the music and I try to oblige.

Nice work. Enjoyed the light touch and the rich reed sound with the slight reverb.  (:)

A favorite of mine, learned from the fiddling of Randal Bays. This is a composition of 17th century Irish harper Thomas Connellan, entitled "Molly St. George". I also added a bit of guitar.

Very evocative. Thanks for this. Going to put it on the list. Will have to see how it sounds without the guitar as I think that adds a lot.

And that's immediately clearly beyond my technical comfort zone. Which is why I have taken on the challenge this month. Sore hand from practice last night. I'm still trying to play the notes in the right direction for the chords but playing with more separation. Long journey ahead.

Thanks Mike,
I just used the settings that were set already so it came out as such.
I'll have to try some other settings sometime (:)

A couple of hornpipes
The Liverpool and stack of barley
My Teacher Jack Conroy told me play tunes in different keys together, so here's my attempt "Irish style" linking a D and G tune.

Marino Casino, by John Sheahan which was brought along to a local (Essex) session this week by Danny, (a member here?) As I was casting for a contribution to this thread, it seemed to meet the brief. Played on a rather battered G 4 stop. Written as an air but played as 'first heard'.

All the best

Thanks all - here's a couple from me:

- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHdd0gv0T2w - Planxty Madame Maxwell, played on a D/G Giasco I; an O'Carolan march.

- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve_S3XeDCrs - Planxty Davis, played on a Bb/Eb Preciosa, which despite popular belief isn't an O'Carolan march, but was in fact written by Thomas Connellan, another Irish harpist. Often played as a hornpipe, especially for dancing, but not here :-)

Cheers,

Clive

Well, even though I already posted a different version of this tune on the Eleanor Plunkett thread, it is the only truly Irish tune I know, so it here it is again this time played on a Gc Pokerwork:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=I30MyLB6d_U

On a Handry (recorded Oct 2nd so still fair game:

And even though it isn’t technically Irish, the following was recorded the other night and is Irish enough to me:

Nice tunes all  (:)

Here's a couple of reels first takes and nothing fancy as usual.
First one is played on my pepperpot
2nd on my beltuna
I'm not sure if both are "Irish" but certainly played by them.

Think I've managed to climb the foothills of the mountain that was uploading music 'out there'! The recording's a bit basic and the playing's a bit rough round the edges at times, but I've no time left as I'm off to Ireland shortly.

So here's three Sliabh Luachra polkas: the first I have no name for but I think maybe from the Newmarket area, so I've called it that, second is Johnny I Do Miss You and third is the wonderful Bhaile Bhuirne polka. Might post some slides too if I get time.

I'm on it now!

Three slides from Sliabh Luachra - the first I have no name for but learned from Julia Clifford, so Julia's Slide, then Terry Teahans', then Where's the Cat.

These (and the polkas) are played on my Eric Martin D/G, on the D row, one-row style all the way through. I like doing that for this set as the tunes are in three different keys!

That's very nice Katie
It gives the lesser musicians like myself something to aspire to (:)
I also like the sound of your Eric Martin

Thanks for your kind comments. I intended adding something slower too, but ran out of time. My basic advice to English players working at Irish music on a D/G is to ease off on the basses. Occasional pokes, drones and offbeat sections work better than a steady oom-pah. Still can't make it work on reels though  ???

Beautiful Alan, Very haunting kind of sound to it and nicely played.
I'll have to add it to the should learn list.

Just before the end of the month a slide and a jig.

Going to the well for water: https://soundcloud.com/bomtom/going-to-the-well-for-water-slide
Trip To Sligo: https://soundcloud.com/bomtom/trip-to-sligo-jig

Both still too slow, but that's it for now.
